THE KASBAH CHRONICLES
The Kasbah Chronicles/Kitty Morse/ via Bend OR, Seattle, and Victoria BC. Don't Forget: presentation and book signing in Santa Barbara, CA, July 19th . A bientôt!
Musings:
”J’ai la bougeotte,” as my maman used to say. In April, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to visit my friend Andrea in Bend, OR. A 2:30 mn hop, skip and jump from San Diego landed me in the high desert, amidst hills lined with gorgeous towering pines. GREEN! GREEN! GREEN they say. Quite a stark contrast to our Mediterranean coastline. That’s why I find traveling in the US so inviting. As a “coastal dweller” I sometimes forget about the vast inland expanse of our amazing continent. Suffice to say that Bend is a lovely, flower-bedecked town on the Columbia river, and turns into a popular ski resort in the winter.
My friend drove me to The Dalles, and across the mighty Columbia to a most unusual stop at “Stonehenge” towards Yakima, and a daylong exploration of Mount Rainier National Park.. where I again stood awestruck at the mighty trees and all that water! Then, we descended into Seattle after a daylong drive across the park, and I took the ferry to Victoria BC, to visit nieces and nephews. Honestly, why leave this continent.
My return from Vancouver BC wasn’t as smooth with a NINE HOUR WAIT at Vancouver airport: AIR CANADA STAFF where were you? No explanation, no checking on “forgotten” passengers. Why? I asked after 4 hours: Not enough air controllers. I returned to SD at 3:25 AM.
In September, I am checking another destination off my bucket list to head to Tuscany with a friend. Speaking of Florence, I would love to hear your suggestions on corners of the city somewhat overlooked by the visiting hordes. We will be driving around Tuscany and explore Cinque Terre. I am a farm groupie, and a farmer’s market addict, and every local market and cheese producer is fair game. Any suggestions?.
But this Chronicle is meant to serve as a reminder to drop in to my presentation in Santa Barbara, July 19th, from 2 to 4PM. The venue downtown is sensational... and you might get a sample of my great-grand mother Blanche’s carrot cake.
I will expand on my US and Canadian travels in the next Chronicles.
Please feel free to share this with your friends:
